Conquering With Canaan (CWC) was founded in memory of Canaan Samrudh Joseph by his family.

Canaan was born on April 14th 2016. He was diagnosed postnatally (7 weeks) with a congenital heart defect and underwent several catheterizations and procedures, a thoracotomy and two major, life-threatening open-heart surgeries during his short life of 20 months. Canaan gained his angel wings on January 2nd, 2018. Through the moments of intense pain and grief, God gave the family His strength to start this foundation in March 2018 to support other families having children with Congenital Heart Defects (CHD). Canaan had multiple long-term stays in the intensive care unit and his family was always beside him – day and night. Through their life changing experience, Canaan’s family is always grateful to the support system they had. Through his short life, Canaan introduced his family to a community that was completely unknown to them, a community of families with medically fragile kids.

Every 15 minutes a child born is being diagnosed with a congenital heart disease, the # 1 birth defect in children. On an average, 40,000 children born are diagnosed with CHD. With a size of a walnut, many newborns undergo open heart surgeries in the first few days of their life. It is a world changing and heart wrenching journey the loved ones of the child must face. There is no cure for it, only a temporary fix. This means these children go numerous heart surgeries during their lifetime. Many do not make it beyond their first year. Needless to say, one of the hardest battles the loved ones fight along with their little heart warrior.
